Tangerang (ANTARA) - The Indonesia National Air Carriers Association\n(INACA) has affirmed that flight safety remains the top priority amid\npotential operational losses caused by the closure of several airports\ndue to natural disasters such as the eruption of Mount Anak\nKrakatau.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf there are losses resulting from the eruption causing airports to\nhalt operations, they certainly exist. But from a safety perspective,\nthe impact of the eruption is of course the top priority,\u201d said INACA\nChairman Denon Prawiraatmadja in Tangerang on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
According to him, regardless of the threat of operational losses to\nairlines from the closure of several airports, what is more important\nand paramount is ensuring flight safety.<\/p>\n
He also acknowledged that the natural disaster had triggered flight\ndelays and rescheduling across various routes.<\/p>\n
Nevertheless, INACA expressed high appreciation to the Ministry of\nTransport for its swift action in issuing Notices to Air Missions\n(NOTAM) to safeguard passengers from the threat of volcanic ash.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn fact, we appreciate the technical ministry for responding quickly\nwith the NOTAM, because the potential damage should not be taken\nlightly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Regarding airport closure policies and further mitigation measures,\nDenon stressed that all airline operational measures are always based on\nvalid official data integrated with the relevant authorities.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is data from the BMKG. So all the technical ministries\u2019 data\nis based on the BMKG,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
In this regard, INACA has not yet been able to provide a cumulative\nestimate of the financial losses suffered by the national aviation\nindustry.<\/p>\n
This is because, he continued, the calculation of the economic impact\nhas been left entirely to the internal policies of each airline.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe losses \u2014 each airline will have to be asked about that,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Previously, the spread of volcanic ash from Mount Anak Krakatau had\naffected airspace and airport operations since Saturday (5\/9).<\/p>\n
As a result, eight airports were forced to suspend operations:\nSoekarno-Hatta Airport in Banten, Halim Perdanakusuma Airport in\nJakarta, Radin Inten II Airport in Lampung and Husein Sastranegara\nAirport in Bandung.<\/p>\n
