        "content": "<p>Importing drugs<br>\nillegally<\/p>\n<p>From Suara Karya<\/p>\n<p>The Drug and Food Control Agency (POM) of the Indonesian <br>\nMinistry of Health is the only institution that has the authority <br>\nto issue permits for the importation of drugs or psychotropic <br>\nsubstances, pursuant to Law No. 22\/1997 and Law No 5\/1997.<\/p>\n<p>However, if the authority for issuing such permits is abused, <br>\ndrug trafficking will become widespread in this country. <br>\nTherefore, it is time for the government to create a system to <br>\nmonitor, evaluate and minimize any violations with regard to <br>\ndrugs and psychotropic substances, as well as impose sanctions on <br>\nbusinesses found to have broken the law.<\/p>\n<p>POM should cooperate with the National Narcotics Agency to  <br>\nsupervise intensively the import of drugs through customs or <br>\nsmuggling.<\/p>\n<p>Although the head of POM, Suparman, said imported drugs and <br>\npsychotropic substances were used for health and scientific <br>\npurposes, people are afraid that the authorities will \"collude <br>\nin\" the illegal importation of drugs and other substances.<\/p>\n<p>VALERY E.
