Importers asked to register at customs<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The directorate general of customs and excise
\nhas required all importers to register their companies in a bid
\nto tighten the processing of import documents.<\/p>\n
Daeng M. Nazier, the head of the customs and excise office in
\nTanjung Priok Port, said on Tuesday importers had until the end
\nof April to register.<\/p>\n
He said importers who obtained new registration numbers would
\nbe eligible to receive a number of facilities in the processing
\nof their import documents.<\/p>\n
These importers will, for example, be given a prenotification
\nservice which will allow them to process their import documents
\nbefore their goods arrive at the port.<\/p>\n
In addition, the importers will be given a month to pay their
\nimport duties, he said.<\/p>\n
\"This (registration) is important to tighten the processing of
\nimport documents,\" he said after meeting with representatives of
\nthe Association of Indonesian Importers.<\/p>\n
He said importers which failed to register would be able to
\ncontinue operating if they possessed identification numbers
\nissued by the Ministry and Trade and taxpayer identification
\nnumbers issued by the director general of taxes.<\/p>\n
\"But these importers will not receive the prenotification
\nservice,\" he said.<\/p>\n
Daeng said he hoped the registration drive also would curb
\nillegal imports by companies or individuals who gave authorities
