Impartiality needed in Ambon<\/p>\n
Hopefully, the security officers who will soon get there to
\nreplace those already on duty in Ambon will be able to do their
\njobs in a professional manner, not take sides in conflicts and
\nact effectively against anyone destroying places of worship.
\n(But) those effort to restore peace must have the support of all
\nthe parties involved in the fighting. All of them must exercise
\nrestraint and persuade others not to engage in destructive
\nactions that might invite retaliation.<\/p>\n
All this is important because it is the prerequisite for
\nrestoring peace and starting the process of reconciliation. In
\nany case, though, no effort toward reconciliation and peace among
\nreligious and community leaders can be effective so long as the
\ncommon people do not see that the handling of the situation is
\nbeing implemented fairly and with impartially.<\/p>\n
Only by fair and firm action can the Ambon problem be settled
\nand the people satisfied. Such a situation is what the government
\nis waiting for.<\/p>\n
