        "content": "<p>Jakarta, Kompas.com - The rupiah is expected to weaken against the US\ndollar in today\u2019s trading, Friday 22 May 2026, to around Rp\n17,600\u201317,725 per US dollar.<\/p>\n<p>Josua Pardede, Chief Economist at Permata Bank, said the rupiah\u2019s\nweakness today stems from policy uncertainty surrounding the formation\nof a new state-owned enterprise, PT Danantara Sumberdaya Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>Investors are beginning to anticipate new policies related to export\ngovernance processes, which would centralise export transactions for\nseveral commodities under the new SOE.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, investors are shifting to other assets ahead of the\nMorgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) announcement next month.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, the rupiah is expected to fluctuate around Rp 17,600\u201317,725\nper US dollar,\u201d he said when contacted by Kompas.com on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Initial US unemployment claims fell to 209,000 from 212,000, lower\nthan market expectations of 210,000, implying a tight US labour\nmarket.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the Preliminary S&amp;P Global US Manufacturing PMI rose\nto 55.3 in May 2026 from 54.5.
