The Surabaya Special Class I Immigration Office (TPI) has deported\neight Chinese nationals for abusing their stay permits to work on a\nrestaurant renovation project in the Pakuwon Mall area of Surabaya.<\/p>\n
The deportation was carried out via Juanda International Airport on\nMonday (22\/06) after officers discovered the eight foreigners performing\ntechnical tasks at the project site.<\/p>\n
Agus Winarto, Head of the Surabaya Special Class I Immigration\nOffice, stated in a briefing received in Jakarta on Thursday that the\nviolations were uncovered during a field operation by the Immigration\nIntelligence and Enforcement Team on 4 June 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cOfficers found the foreigners performing technical work, ranging\nfrom electrical installation, plumbing, and construction, to the\ninstallation of ventilation systems for a restaurant renovation project\nin the Pakuwon Mall area of Surabaya,\u201d said Agus.<\/p>\n
Four of the nationals, holding D2 index visit permits, were suspected\nof performing technical field work that did not align with the permitted\nuse of their stay permits. Three others, holding C20 index visit\npermits, were found working for companies different from the sponsors\nlisted in their immigration documents. One individual, holding a limited\nstay permit with the position of technical manager, was also proven to\nbe working at a location and for a company that did not match their\nsponsoring documents.<\/p>\n
\u201cIndonesia is very open to investment and foreign workers who bring\nbenefits to development. However, they must comply with the law,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n
He emphasised that every foreign national is required to use their\nstay permit in accordance with their activities, work according to their\ndesignated positions, and work for the companies acting as their\nsponsors.<\/p>\n
The eight individuals were found to be in violation of Article 122,\nletter a, of Law Number 6 of 2011 concerning Immigration.<\/p>\n
Agus stated that the strengthening of intelligence functions, field\noperations, and synergy with relevant agencies is being conducted to\nensure that the activities of foreigners within the Surabaya Immigration\njurisdiction comply with legal provisions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are committed to creating a healthy investment climate that is\nfair to local workers and free from illegal foreign practices,\u201d said\nAgus.<\/p>\n
