        "content": "<p>IMF to boost capital<\/p>\n<p>TOKYO (AFP): The major contributor nations to the<br>\nInternational Monetary Fund (IMF) have started to finalize plans<br>\nto boost the fund's capital by 40 percent, a Japanese newspaper<br>\nreported Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Quoting unidentified sources in Washington, the Nihon Keizai<br>\nShimbun said the final preparations begun on Monday would result<br>\nin Japan becoming the second largest contributor to the IMF after<br>\nthe United States.<\/p>\n<p>The contributions of other East Asian members such as South<br>\nKorea are expected to rise sharply due to their rapid economic<br>\ngrowth, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>Details of the plan will be discussed at a meeting of Group of<br>\nSeven (G-7) finance ministers and central bank governors in Hong<br>\nKong on Saturday ahead of next week's annual meetings of the IMF<br>\nand the World Bank, it added.<\/p>\n<p>Under a new formula for calculating capital contributions from<br>\nmember countries, Japan will contribute more to the IMF than<br>\nGermany, the report said.
