        "content": "<p>Imelda says she will appeal<\/p>\n<p>MANILA (AFP): Former first lady Imelda Marcos said here<br>\nyesterday that she would appeal her earlier disqualification from<br>\nrunning for congress in the central island of Leyte, adding that<br>\nshe was sure of winning the election.<\/p>\n<p>\"I have always known there are people out to prevent me from<br>\nseeking public office simply because I am Mrs. Marcos,\" she said,<br>\nadding that \"I will win hands-down\" despite the disqualification.<\/p>\n<p>Her lawyer, Jaime Opinion, added that they were confident that<br>\nby filing appeals, the widow of deposed dictator Ferdinand Marcos<br>\nwould be able to run in the May 8 elections.<\/p>\n<p>The official Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday,<br>\nacting on a petition filed by Marcos's rival in the race,<br>\nCongressman Cirilo Montejo, disqualified her because she did not<br>\nsatisfy a one-year residency requirement for candidates in the<br>\nareas where they are running.<\/p>",
