ILO unveils support plan for East Timor<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The International Labor Organization (ILO)
\noffice in Geneva has unveiled a comprehensive plan for
\nreconstruction, employment and skills training in East Timor.<\/p>\n
ILO said in a statement made available to The Jakarta Post on
\nWednesday that the plan of assistance was provided on Tuesday to
\nthe members of the Employment and Social Policy of the ILO's
\ngoverning body meeting in the presence of Jose Ramos-Horta, the
\nEast Timorese leading figure and joint winner of the Nobel Peace
\nprize in 1996.<\/p>\n
The assistance includes emergency employment in labor-
\nintensive reconstruction schemes, the rehabilitation of public
\nutilities, the promotion of small businesses and development of
\nvocational education and training and the establishment of
\nemployment registration and services.<\/p>\n
The cost of the total package of the assistance programs, to
\nbe implemented over a period of three years, is estimated to be
\nsome US$22.7 million.<\/p>",
