ILO looks at kids and drugs<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The International Labor Organization (ILO) said on
\nMonday a study it conducted found that 4 percent of all drug
\nusers in the country were below the age of 17.<\/p>\n
ILO spokeswoman Gita Lingga also said that two out of 10 of
\nthese young drug users also were involved in selling narcotics.<\/p>\n
"They generally start selling drugs when they are between the
\nages of 13 and 15," she was quoted by Antara as saying.<\/p>\n
The average drug transaction for these young dealers is worth
\nabout Rp 300,000 (US$34), she said. -Antara<\/p>\n

Govt to turn to Supreme Court<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: If the Jakarta High Court fails to resolve the legal
\ndispute between two factions of the National Awakening Party
\n(PKB), the government will ask the Supreme Court to settle the
\nmatter.<\/p>\n
Minister of Justice and Human Rights Yusril Ihza Mahendra said
\non Monday the government would enforce whatever decision was made
\nby the Supreme Court.<\/p>\n
"We will abide by the Supreme Court's decision, while the
\nverification process will go on," Yusril said before attending a
\nCabinet meeting.<\/p>\n
Conflicting court rulings have failed to resolve the legal
\ndispute between two factions of the PKB led by Alwi Shihab and
\nMatori Abdul Djalil.<\/p>\n
The Central Jakarta District Court recently issued a verdict
\nin favor of the PKB under the leadership of Matori, who is also
\nthe defense minister in President Megawati Soekarnoputri's
\nCabinet.<\/p>\n
Earlier, however, the courts issued a ruling endorsing the
\ndismissal of Matori from the PKB leadership for backing the
\nextraordinary meeting of the People's Consultative Assembly that
\nousted former president Abdurrahman Wahid in 2001.<\/p>\n

DENPASAR, Bali: State Minister for Administrative Reforms
\nFeisal Tamin said on Monday many local leaders lacked leadership
\nexperience and had less education than most of their
\nconstituents.<\/p>\n
He said that in one regency 65 percent of the legislators only
\nhad elementary school education, while the majority of their
\ntheir constituents were university graduates.<\/p>\n
He said this situation made it look like hoodlums were running

Minister to withdraw 'lottery' license<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Minister of Social Affairs Bachtiar Chamsyah promised
\non Monday to withdraw a license given to a company to run a
\n"lottery-style" life insurance program that offers prizes to
\ncustomers.<\/p>\n
"If it can be proven that the insurance is a lottery in the
\nguise of life insurance, the ministry will be ready to withdraw
\nthe license for the insurance company," the minister said.<\/p>\n
He said the ministry granted the license to PT Provisi last
\nmonth after receiving a recommendation from the Jakarta Social
\nAffairs Agency.<\/p>\n
Under the company's insurance program, apart from compensation
\nfrom the company, policyholders also have the chance to win a
\nvariety of prizes if the numbers on their premium cards match
\nnumbers announced on TV.<\/p>\n
The insurance program is scheduled to kick off this August.
