        "content": "<p>Illegal miners working in Bogor<\/p>\n<p>BOGOR: The illegal excavation of sand, rocks and soil is<br>\ntaking place in a number of areas in Bogor regency, but the<br>\nauthorities are finding it difficult to put a stop to these<br>\nactivities, an official said.<\/p>\n<p>The head of the services division at Bogor regency's Mining<br>\nAgency, Asep Zaenal, said illegal mining was taking place in a<br>\nnumber of villages, including Kelapa Nunggal, Kembang Kuning,<br>\nParung Panjang, Gunung Sindur, Caringin and Pasir Buncir.<\/p>\n<p>\"Nearly every day hundreds of trucks transporting red soil<br>\nhead for Jakarta,\" Asep said, adding that they usually worked at<br>\nnight.<\/p>\n<p>He said the illegal miners had been working in these areas for<br>\nsome time.<\/p>\n<p>The miners say sand, rocks and soil were provided by God so<br>\nnobody could stop them from making use of these gifts, Asep said.<\/p>\n<p>Illegal mining can have a serious impact on the environment,<br>\nincluding worsening flooding in downstream areas, particularly if<br>\nthe mining takes place in river catchment areas, he said. --JP<\/p>",
