Illegal migrant workers' ordeal<\/p>\n

Reports on the imminent large-scale deportation of Indonesian
\nmigrant workers from Saudi Arabia should arouse our concern
\nbecause this has happened several times before and the government
\nhas yet to find a solution to this problem.<\/p>\n
Apart from the number of workers involved any deportations are
\npotential human rights infringements. In order to avoid similar
\ncases of illegal Indonesian workers migrating abroad, practical
\nmeasures should be taken by the relevant state agencies.<\/p>\n
In this case, coordination should be arranged -- between the
\nimmigration office, the police, the ministries of foreign affairs
\nand communications -- and proper rules, such as a legal umbrella
\ncovering migrants, should be introduced.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, information should be provided for would-be workers
\nabout the importance of legal documents for overseas employment,
\nby approaching the media, community figures and social
\norganizations.<\/p>\n
These cases of illegal migrant workers harm the interests of
\nnot only the individuals concerned but also the nation -- our
\ngood name is being tarnished. The government remains obliged to
\nprotect its citizens by ensuring its officials act in a
\ndisciplined way and punish any party enabling unlawful migration.<\/p>\n
