Illegal logging comes under spotlight, again<\/p>\n
An Investigative team from Riau's Natural Resources Conservation
\nBody (BKSDA) have detained 15 truck drivers since Tuesday who
\nwere nabbed carrying illegal logs.<\/p>\n
According to the team, led by J. Siregar, the drivers have
\nalready been declared as suspects. The team has also identified
\nfour groups involved in illegal logging practices in the
\nprovince.<\/p>\n
Unfortunately, only the truck drivers were arrested while the
\nmasterminds behind the illegal logging operations are still free.<\/p>\n
Head of BKSDA in Riau, John Kenedie, acknowledged on Wednesday
\nthat based on the questioning of 15 suspects and 45 witnesses,
\nfour groups have already been identified but he was reluctant to
\ndisclose more information on the groups.<\/p>\n
\"The investigation into illegal logging is handled by BKSDA,
\nwhich receives support from the Ministry of Forestry. With that
\nsupport, we'll find and arrest the masterminds,\" John said.<\/p>\n
Illegal logging has moved back into the spotlight with the
\nrecent release of a joint report by the London-based
\nEnvironmental Investigation Agency and the Indonesian group
\nTelapak, which have accusing the Indonesian Military and other
\nofficials of smuggling 300,000 cubic meters of timber a month out
