        "content": "<p>TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - One of the upscale residential complexes in\nJakarta\u2019s Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) neighborhood suddenly became a scene\nof commotion on Tuesday night, August 25, 2026. More than a dozen\nofficers from the Indonesian National Police\u2019s Criminal Investigation\nDepartment (Bareskrim) raided a two-story white house.<\/p>\n<p>Police suspected the luxury home was being used as an illegal gold\nrefining and processing site linked to a network in China. Led by Brig.\nGen.\u00a0Mohammad Irhamni, Director of the Special Crimes Directorate,\nofficers immediately searched every corner of the house.<\/p>\n<p>But the house, rented by a Chinese national identified by the\ninitials CGZ, was already empty. The tenant had fled after police\nstepped up operations against an illegal gold smuggling network in\nrecent weeks. \u201cHe may have gotten scared and fled,\u201d Irhamni told Tempo\nthe day after the raid.<\/p>\n<p>The police did not leave empty-handed. They found evidence\nreinforcing their suspicion that the site was part of a gold-smuggling\nnetwork. Investigators, for example, found a device for testing gold\npurity and digital scales. There was also equipment for melting gold and\nRp50 million (about US$2,800) in cash.<\/p>",
