Illegal buildings demolished<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): City public order officers demolished dozens of
\nillegal buildings in Sunter district, North Jakarta, on Monday,
\nafter owners failed to abide by North Jakarta mayoralty's
\ndemolition order issued last year.<\/p>\n
Demolition was conducted under the coordination of North
\nJakarta public order office official A. Soffiyana, with officers
\nof the local district military command and North Jakarta Police
\nprecinct assisting.<\/p>\n
Most of the demolition occurred without incident, although
\nsome building owners tried to prevent officers from tearing down
\ntheir houses, public order office chief Boy Firman said.<\/p>\n
Soffiyana said as soon as the demolition was completed at 10
\na.m., the officers immediately fenced in the area to block local
\nresidents from illegally rebuilding their houses.<\/p>\n
Mayor H. Suprawito issued the order last year, asking for the
\ndemolition of illegal houses at the disputed area, but demolition
\nwas postponed due to resistance by local residents.<\/p>\n
Hundreds of residents intentionally stayed on the disputed
\nland, which covers 6,000 square meters and belongs to landowner
\nIqbal, Antara reported.<\/p>\n
In a bid to get his property back, Iqbal urged the North
\nJakarta mayoralty to help clear the land, the report said. (hhr)<\/p>",
