TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Forest fires in the Ijen Crater Nature Tourism\nPark (TWA), located between the Banyuwangi and Bondowoso regencies in\nEast Java, gradually decreased on Tuesday, September 8, especially\nhotspots along the hiking trail.<\/p>\n
Banyuwangi Regent Ipuk Fiestiandani said that in addition to using a\nwater-bombing helicopter belonging to the East Java Regional Disaster\nManagement Agency (BPBD) since Sunday, the joint team has carried out\ncooling and mopping-up operations to prevent the fire from\nspreading.<\/p>\n
\u201cAerial monitoring shows that there are still hotspots, especially in\nhard-to-reach locations. Some areas are still emitting smoke, indicating\na risk of fire,\u201d said Regent Ipuk after monitoring the forest fire\nlocations in the Ijen Crater TWA on Tuesday, as quoted by ANTARA.<\/p>\n
Although the number of fires has significantly decreased, he\ncontinued, the main hotspots are still in hard-to-reach locations,\nincluding around Mount Papak in the Ijen mountain range. Therefore,\nwater-bombing helicopters are still conducting aerial firefighting\ntoday.<\/p>\n
According to Ipuk, the water-bombing helicopters carry out an average\nof 30 water-dropping operations per day. In one aerial firefighting\noperation, they carry 1,000 liters of water from the PT Medco reservoir\nin the Mount Ijen area.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs of today, helicopters are still conducting aerial firefighting\noperations at points where smoke is suspected and could potentially\ncause new fires. The joint team is also combing the area for hotspots,\u201d\nhe said.<\/p>\n
\u201cLet\u2019s pray that this can be handled quickly so the fire doesn\u2019t\nspread further across the dry land in the Ijen Crater area,\u201d Ipuk\nadded.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Head of Conservation Section Region 5 Banyuwangi Noviyani\nUtami added that the ground team carried out mopping up, especially on\nthe climbing route and was assisted by a team from the Forest and Land\nFire Control Center (BPKHL) for the Java, Bali, and Nusa Tenggara\nRegions.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe were also assisted by the BKO from the Jabalnusra Forestry and\nFire Department for the mopping-up process to ensure that embers were no\nlonger burning, and also to map the extent of the fire and clear the\nclimbing route,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
