IFRC extends US$20m for Bali's recovery<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The Federation of the International Red Cross (IFRC)
\nhas extended US$20 million in aid to help the Balinese overcome
\nthe impact of the Oct. 12 bomb blasts, which killed more than 190
\npeople, mostly foreign tourists.<\/p>\n
"The assistance was distributed through several international
\norganizations, the Australian Red Cross, Singaporean Red Cross
\nand the Indonesian Red Cross," IFRC secretary-general Didier
\nCherpitel said here on Friday.<\/p>\n
Briefing the media after signing a cooperation agreement with
\nthe government, Cherpitel said the IFRC was not focusing its
\nhumanitarian assistance only on Bali.<\/p>\n
"We are also assisting people who have fled to safer places
\nfollowing the eruption of Mt. Papandayan," he said.<\/p>\n
On the agreement, Cherpitel said it would provide a legal
\nbasis for the IFRC to continue its mission in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
"Since 1998, the IFRC has had a country delegate in Indonesia
\nto help PMI empower local groups in dealing with natural
