IFC, Vietnam govt hold talks<\/p>\n
HANOI: A senior official from the International Finance
\nCorporation is in Vietnam for talks with the government and
\nindustry leaders on drumming up foreign investment, the
\norganization said on Monday.<\/p>\n
Assaad Jabre, IFC vice president of operations, will also
\ndiscuss ways to improve the investment environment for the
\nprivate sector in the communist nation during his Aug. 24-28
\nvisit to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.<\/p>\n
\"The visit underlines the importance and continuing commitment
\nthat IFC, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group,
\nattaches to its work in Vietnam,\" it said in a statement.<\/p>\n
Jabre will be accompanied by other IFC officials including
\nJaved Hamid, East Asia and the Pacific director and Stoyan Tenev,
\nlead economist for the region.<\/p>\n
Last year pledged foreign direct investment into Vietnam
\nplummeted 41.1 percent compared with the previous year to US$1.33
\nbillion. In the first three months of the year it slumped 32.3
\npercent to $178.6 million. -- AFP<\/p>",
