        "content": "<p>JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The International Energy Agency (IEA) has\nindicated the possibility of releasing additional emergency oil reserves\nif the conflict in the Middle East continues to disrupt supplies and\npush up global energy prices.<\/p>\n<p>IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol assessed the impact of the current\nenergy crisis as far greater than previous supply disruptions, including\nthe 1970s oil crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the National Press Club in Canberra, Australia, Birol\nemphasised that the global energy market is in a very serious condition\ndue to damage to energy infrastructure in the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>According to him, even if a peace agreement is reached in the near\nfuture, the damage to energy facilities will cause prolonged supply and\nprice pressures.<\/p>\n<p>The IEA noted that at least 40 energy assets in the Middle East\nregion have been damaged or destroyed due to the ongoing conflict.<\/p>\n<p>This damage directly affects global energy production, processing,\nand distribution.<\/p>\n<p>However, under current conditions, supply disruptions are estimated\nto reach around 11 million barrels per day.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUp to today, we have lost 11 million barrels per day,\u201d Birol\nstated.<\/p>\n<p>This figure reflects significant pressure on the global energy\nmarket, particularly because the Middle East plays a crucial role in the\nworld\u2019s oil and gas supply chain.<\/p>\n<p>That step became the largest release of oil reserves in the agency\u2019s\nhistory.<\/p>\n<p>According to Birol, the announcement of the reserve release\ntemporarily suppressed fuel prices.
