Identify negligent developers: City Council<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The City Council is urging the City Development
\nSupervision Office to announce the names of the developers found
\nguilty of building projects without licenses.<\/p>\n
The office said on Thursday that seven large-scale developers
\nhad been reprimanded for constructing luxury apartments, shopping
\ncenters, office buildings and other projects without licenses.<\/p>\n
\"The development supervision office should be consistent
\nbecause the public wants to know more about the negligent
\ndevelopers,\" said Sahala A.R. Sinaga, a member of the Council's
\nCommission C, which is in charge of financial affairs.<\/p>\n
\"If not, the public will be suspicious and assume that there
\nis something wrong between the city administration and the
\ndevelopers,\" he said.<\/p>\n
\"If the office does not mention the developers' names, it is
\nnot fair. People might think that they were just mentioning a
\nnumber, any number, without having done anything,\" Sahala added.<\/p>\n
Suharto, the head of the City Development Supervision Office,
\nannounced that each of the seven companies was fined between 6 to
\n12 times the normal fee price for the processing of a building
\npermit.<\/p>\n
He added that four of the seven developers have already paid
\nthe fines and the rest are still in the process of paying. But he
\nrefused to mention the developers names.<\/p>\n
\"Do not be afraid, just announce the names of the reckless
\ndevelopers,\" said H. Saud Rahman, another member of the City
\nCouncil from Commission D, which is in charge of development
\naffairs.<\/p>\n
Soni Harsono, the State Minister for Agrarian Affairs\/ Chief
\nof National Land Affairs Board, also expressed his concern with
\nthe many buildings being set up without permits. Despite the
\nabsence of permits, some developers have already sold their
\napartments to the public.<\/p>\n
According to Suharto, his office does not have the right to
\ntake action against the developers. It is, he said, the duty of
\nother agencies like the City Manpower Office. (31)<\/p>",
