        "content": "<p>ID stickers to be issued for campaigners' cars<\/p>\n<p>JAKARTA (JP): Police will issue official car stickers, in the<br>\npolitical parties' colors, to campaigners for the general<br>\nelection campaign period.<\/p>\n<p>City Police spokesman Lt. Col. E. Aritonang said yesterday the<br>\ncompulsory stickers were green, for the Moslem-based United<br>\nDevelopment Party (PPP), yellow, for the ruling Golkar, and red,<br>\nfor the Indonesian Democratic Party (PDI).<\/p>\n<p>Polling day is May 29.<\/p>\n<p>The stickers, each bearing a code number, will allow<br>\ncampaigners to travel in only one of the eight areas of Greater<br>\nJakarta.<\/p>\n<p>Aritonang said the stickers for campaigners' cars were to stop<br>\nsupporters of one party in one area, entering another area during<br>\nthe campaign period.<\/p>\n<p>Golkar supporters with Central Jakarta stickers on their cars,<br>\nfor example, will not be allowed to go to Golkar campaign<br>\nactivities in other areas.<\/p>\n<p>\"By limiting mass gatherings of supporters in an area, we hope<br>\nthe campaigning will run in an orderly manner,\" Aritonang said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the codes on the stickers would be different for each<br>\nof the eight areas.<\/p>\n<p>Central Jakarta will be coded one; North, two; West, three;<br>\nSouth, four; East, five; Tangerang, six; Bekasi, seven; and<br>\nDepok, eight.<\/p>\n<p>Each party was to see that law and order are maintained during<br>\nthe campaign, Aritonang said.<\/p>\n<p>\"Each party is responsible for its supporters,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Police would help control all the activities during the<br>\ncampaigns and impose sanctions on campaigners who violate<br>\nregulations, Aritonang said.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of police officers have been preparing for the<br>\ncampaign.<\/p>\n<p>City Police Chief Maj. Gen. Hamami Nata yesterday inspected<br>\nhis fully armed men, they have 127 cars and 476 motorcycles for<br>\nthe campaign period.<\/p>\n<p>Hamami asked them to do their utmost to ensure the campaigns<br>\nrun well, and to prevent crime.<\/p>\n<p>\"We are in a war against crime,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Hamami said each officer should catch one criminal a week.
