ICW reports graft case in 'TVRI'<\/p>\n

Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) reported state-run television
\nTVRI on Thursday to the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK)
\nin connection with allegations of markups that reportedly cost
\nthe taxpayer some Rp 7.2 billion (US$720,000).<\/p>\n
The markups were connected with procurements by the
\nbroadcasting company in 2004.<\/p>\n
\"The procurements were valued at a total of Rp 16.9 billion,
\nbut after an investigation it was found that only Rp 9.7 billion
\nwas actually paid out. So, there are indications that the amounts
\ninvolved were marked up by around 74 percent,\" ICW deputy
\ncoordinator Lucky Djani said.<\/p>\n
He was speaking to journalists at the KPK offices in Central
\nJakarta, where he reported the graft allegations.<\/p>\n
Lucky said that markups were found in the procurement of mini
\nDV camcoders and equipment for TVRI's auditorium.<\/p>\n
\"The price of the mini DV camcoders was marked up by Rp 2
\nbillion, while that of the auditorium equipment was marked up by
\nmore than Rp 5.2 billion,\" he added.<\/p>\n
He said the alleged corruption showed that the state-owned
\ntelevision station was in a mess.<\/p>\n
The ICW doubts the credibility of companies participating in
\ntenders to supply broadcasting equipment and other materials to
\nTVRI.<\/p>\n
However, Lucky refrained from giving the names of the TVRI
\nsuppliers.<\/p>\n
The anticorruption watchdog urged the KPK to thoroughly
\ninvestigate the allegations, and to carry out an audit on the
\ncompany's 2004 accounts.<\/p>\n
It also urged the government to investigate all irregularities
\nat the station and to take action against its management.<\/p>",
