ICG corrects report on JI<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: Responding to a complaint filed by Indonesian
\nMilitary (TNI) spokesman Maj. Gen. Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, the
\nInternational Crisis Group (ICG) has revised its latest report on
\nJamaah Islamiyah's operations in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
ICG reported recently that Fauzi Hasbi, a JI member of Aceh
\nprovince, maintained regular communications with Sjafrie since he
\nsurrendered to the military in 1979.<\/p>\n
The ICG made it clear in its revision that \"Hasbi had
\ncommunications with Major General Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin as recently
\nas 2000\".<\/p>\n
It also revised its report that Hasbi's first meeting with the
\ngeneral occurred when he surrendered in 1977.<\/p>\n
Sjafrie earlier threatened to sue the non-governmental
\norganization if it failed to correct his role in the report,
\nsaying that \"the report could cause public misinterpretation as
\nit links me to Jamaah Islamiyah\".<\/p>\n
Following the Bali bomb blasts on Oct. 12, Jamaah Islamiyah
\nwas declared a terrorist organization as it is believed to have
\nclose links with the international terrorist group al-Qaeda, led
\nby Osama bin Laden. The group is also suspected of playing a role
