The Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE) industry\ncontinues to demonstrate a strategic role in supporting Indonesia\u2019s\neconomic and tourism growth. As of September 2025, 134 national events\nwere successfully held, attracting a total of 10.8 million visitors.\nIndonesia currently ranks 37th globally and 4th in the ASEAN region\nwithin the MICE industry, strengthening its position as an increasingly\ncompetitive destination for international events and conferences.<\/p>\n
To bolster this momentum, the government aims to increase the MICE\nsector\u2019s contribution to foreign exchange reserves from approximately\n10% to 15% by 2029. This target is to be achieved through the\ndevelopment of the national event ecosystem, enhancing destination\ncompetitiveness, and expanding more inclusive and sustainable economic\nimpacts.<\/p>\n
This growth momentum also presents greater opportunities for\nIndonesia to host various large-scale global forums. One such\nachievement is the appointment of Indonesia Convention Exhibition (ICE)\nBSD as the host for the Global Sustainable Development Congress (GSDC)\n2026, a sustainable development forum that brings together global\nleaders from various sectors.<\/p>\n

In line with the increasing demand for sustainable event management,\nICE BSD continues to strengthen its role as a MICE destination that\nintegrates operational aspects with environmental responsibility. This\ncommitment is part of ICE BSD\u2019s transformation to introduce new\nstandards for the event organising industry in Indonesia.<\/p>\n
In its implementation, ICE BSD is developing various sustainability\ninitiatives, ranging from energy efficiency through the use of natural\nlighting and energy-saving LED lamps, to water recycling systems and the\nprovision of EV Charging Stations for visitors and event\nparticipants.<\/p>\n
This commitment is further strengthened through a collaboration with\nRekosistem for the GSDC 2026 to implement an integrated waste management\nsystem. This initiative includes providing sorted bins, educator\nassistance in the sorting process, and the provision of Reverse Vending\nMachines (RVM) to encourage active participation from participants in\ncollecting recyclable materials.<\/p>\n
Through this collaboration, 1.62 tonnes of waste were successfully\nmanaged during the GSDC 2026 proceedings. From this total volume,\nRekosistem recorded a recovery rate of 41%, which was diverted from\nlandfills for recycling, while 57.30% consisted of residual waste, and\nthe remaining 1.60% was organic waste.<\/p>\n
From the total waste collected across four collection cycles, the\nsalvaged inorganic material was dominated by plastic at 14.35% and paper\nat 10.07%, followed by plastic bottles, cardboard, glass, and metal.\nThese integrated sorting and management efforts successfully created a\nsignificant environmental impact by reducing carbon emissions by up to\n667.9 kg of CO2. This environmental saving is equivalent to planting\n11.35 tree seedlings for 10 years, or saving 285.70 litres of petrol and\n333.25 kg of coal. This step is part of a concrete effort to promote the\nimplementation of a circular economy in the MICE industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough GSDC 2026, we want to demonstrate that hosting international\nforums on a global scale can run in harmony with environmental\nresponsibility. GSDC 2026 features more than 5,000 participants, 500 speakers, 200\nexhibitors, and delegates from over 100 countries. This forum serves as\na platform for cross-sector collaboration to accelerate the achievement\nof the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through innovation,\nknowledge, and real action.<\/p>\n
In addition to its superior facilities, ICE BSD was selected as the\nvenue for GSDC 2022 because it offers added value through highly\nstrategic connectivity for international participants. Serving as a\nmodern global-scale convention centre, the location is easily accessible\nvia various modes of public transport and private vehicles. For\ndelegates arriving by air, the journey from Soekarno-Hatta International\nAirport to ICE BSD takes approximately 35 minutes via car or airport\nrail service.<\/p>\n
Ease of access to public transport is also reflected in the\nintegration of the Airport Train (KAI Bandara Railink) route to Duri\nStation, which connects to commuter trains via Tanah Abang to the\nRangkasbitung Line at Cisauk Station. From the nearest station,\nparticipants only need to continue a short journey via taxi or\nride-hailing services to the venue. For land access, ICE BSD is also\nvery easy to reach thanks to direct connections to major toll road\nnetworks, including the Prof.\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Sedyatmo Toll, JORR W2, and the\nKunciran\u2013Serpong Toll.<\/p>\n
