        "content": "<p>ICBC opens Jakarta office<\/p>\n<p>TAIPEI (Dow Jones): International Commercial Bank of China,<br>\none of Taiwan&apos;s largest state-controlled banks, will establish a<br>\nrepresentative office in Jakarta to help promote bilateral trade<br>\nbetween the two countries.<\/p>\n<p>The representative office could eventually become a full-<br>\nfledged branch, ICBC said. The bank has already received approval<br>\nfor an operating license from the Indonesian Ministry of Finance.<\/p>\n<p>ICBC, whose last chairman was current Central Bank of China<br>\nGovernor Perng Fai-nan, said the Jakarta-based office would<br>\nprovide financial services to Taiwanese investors in Indonesia<br>\nand support and encourage Taiwanese businessmen to carry out<br>\ninvestment projects in line with the government&apos;s &quot;Southbound&quot;<br>\npolicy.<\/p>\n<p>In an effort to minimize Taiwan&apos;s economic reliance on China,<br>\nthe government is encouraging local companies to &quot;go South&quot; into<br>\ncountries such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand.<\/p>",
