Ibu Kartini's ideals<\/p>\n
Indonesian women of all social strata regard Kartini as a
\ntypical, independent Indonesian woman. However, what is actually
\nmeant by the words \"independent woman\" is still a subject of
\ndebate. In Western countries, women are struggling for
\nemancipation i.e. equal rights for both men and women. But how is
\nthe emancipation interpreted in real life? Polemics have been
\ndragging on concerning this issue. Realistically -- at least
\nbiologically -- women are different from men.<\/p>\n
We can see that the government is serious about realizing
\nKartini's ideals because they have created a special department
\nfor women's affairs. And in the business sector, women enjoy the
\nsame privileges as their male counterparts thanks to the same
\naccess to education for both men and women.<\/p>\n

We continued to stress the advancement of women because we
\nstill see exploitation of female workers in some industries. They
\nhave to work for lower pay and in some cases they are sexually
\nexploited.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, we hail women who have achieved respectable
\npositions within their career field. Yet they have to make their
\nlives balanced in a way that will not force them to abandon their
\ncrucial role within the family.<\/p>\n
