Ibas expressed his respect and appreciation to the scholars, kiais,\nustazs, and santri who have long been integral in upholding moral\nvalues, unity, and social life in society.<\/p>\n
According to him, amid the rapidly changing world, pesantren play a\nstrategic role not only in preserving Islamic values and morals but also\nin preparing the younger generation to be intelligent, adaptive, and\nunderstanding of global challenges.<\/p>\n
\u201cPesantren today must be capable of producing a generation that is\nstrong in morals, broad in knowledge, understands technology, is\ncreative, and able to keep up with world developments. Santri must not\nbe left behind in science and technology,\u201d said Ibas in his statement on\nSunday (10\/5\/2026).<\/p>\n
This was conveyed by Edhie Baskoro, Chairman of the Democratic Party\nFaction in the Indonesian House of Representatives, during a visit to\nkiais, administrators, and leaders of pesantren in Trenggalek Regency\nsome time ago. The visit was part of the National Four Pillars\nSocialisation agenda themed \u2018United in Brotherhood, Advancing Prosperity\nto Build the Nation\u2019.<\/p>\n
The Deputy General Chairman of the Democratic Party also stressed the\nimportance of understanding global issues such as geopolitics,\ngeo-economics, geo-strategy, and digitalisation. This way, Indonesia\u2019s\nyounger generation can compete and maintain direction amid world\nchanges.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe world is moving very quickly. There are challenges in\ngeopolitics, geo-economics, digitalisation developments, and\nextraordinary technological changes. Therefore, santri also need to\nunderstand world developments to become a wise generation, ready to\ncompete, but still holding onto values and identity,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n
Ibas also reminded that advances in science and technology must be\naccompanied by character education, manners, and ethics in the teaching\nand learning process. According to him, pesantren play a significant\nrole in upholding values of compassion, respect for others, and\nexemplary conduct in educational environments.<\/p>\n
\u201cHigh knowledge must be paired with good morals. Education is not\njust about intelligence, but also about manners, ethics, respect, and\ncompassion for others. Pesantren have long been the birthplace of a\ngeneration that is polite, humble, and beneficial to society,\u201d said\nIbas.<\/p>\n
He hopes that the pesantren environment continues to be a safe\neducational space, full of exemplary conduct, and capable of shaping the\ncharacter of the younger generation who are empathetic and uphold\nhumanitarian values.<\/p>\n
In addition to character education, Ibas also highlighted the\nimportance of creativity and economic independence in the pesantren\nenvironment. According to him, the younger generation must be encouraged\nto become dynamic, innovative individuals capable of creating new\nopportunities based on creativity.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe want our santri to grow into a productive and independent\ngeneration. Creativity must continue to be developed so that new\neconomic engines emerge from pesantren and society. Young people must\ndare to innovate, create job opportunities, and bring benefits to their\nsurroundings,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n
This member of the House of Representatives from the East Java VII\nelectoral district added that the Pesantren Law has provided significant\nspace for pesantren to develop not only as centres of education and\nda\u2019wah, but also as centres for community empowerment and strengthening\nthe ummah\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n
\u201cAlhamdulillah, the Pesantren Law has accommodated us all. Pesantren\ncan continue to develop into centres of education, da\u2019wah, community\nempowerment, as well as drivers of productive economies that are\nbeneficial and sustainable,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Strengthen Collaboration to Improve Community Welfare<\/p>\n
On that occasion, Ibas also invited all elements, from pesantren\nleaders, santri, government, to people\u2019s representatives, to strengthen\ncollaboration and synergy in building the region and improving community\nwelfare.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe cannot walk alone. There must be synergy and unity between\npesantren, government, society, and people\u2019s representatives. If we are\nunited, insyaallah progress and community welfare can be realised more\nquickly,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He affirmed that even though he is at the central level, he will\ncontinue to strive to oversee various community needs in the regions,\nincluding pesantren education, ummah welfare, and strengthening human\nresources.<\/p>\n
On that occasion, Ibas also touched on the importance of affordable\nand quality Hajj worship services for the community. He assured that his\nside continues to oversee ensuring Hajj costs remain within reasonable\nlimits and to encourage improvements in pilgrim services.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe continue to oversee so that Hajj costs remain within decency.\nWith subsidies and support from BPKH, the community is not burdened with\nfull costs. We also continue to push for better pilgrim services and\nshorter Hajj waiting times,\u201d he explained.<\/p>\n
Closing his speech, Ibas asked for prayers and support from the kiais\nand pesantren leaders so that he continues to be given strength in\noverseeing community aspirations and fighting for the ummah\u2019s\nprogress.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe ask for prayers and support so that pesantren continue to be a\nlight for the ummah and the nation, safeguarding the morals of the\nyounger generation, strengthening knowledge, and producing a generation\nthat benefits Indonesia,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
