Jakarta \u2014 Vice Chair of the People\u2019s Consultative Assembly of the\nRepublic of Indonesia (MPR RI) Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, known as Ibas,\nhas paid tribute to the late sixth Vice President of Indonesia Try\nSutrisno, remembering him as an exemplary figure in upholding the\nnation\u2019s constitutional values.<\/p>\n
In a statement issued in Jakarta on Monday, Ibas expressed his\ncondolences over Try Sutrisno\u2019s passing and acknowledged that his\ndedication to democracy and the nation\u2019s development would be remembered\nthrough his service.<\/p>\n
\u201cA figure who was not only a national leader but also an example in\nupholding constitutional values. In every aspect of his service, he\nalways fought for the nation\u2019s constitution for the sake of justice and\nthe prosperity of the people. This dedication became an important\nfoundation in the journey of our democracy and national life,\u201d Ibas\nstated.<\/p>\n
Ibas underscored that as a member of the next generation, he felt a\nmoral responsibility to continue Try Sutrisno\u2019s thinking and service as\na statesman, and that he serves as an inspiration for the nation\u2019s\nchildren.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat has been inherited is not merely history, but also the\ndirection and spirit to continue building Indonesia that is stronger,\nsovereign, and responsive to the people. May the values of that struggle\ncontinue to live and inspire us, the younger generation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Ibas described Try Sutrisno as a fighter and nationalist who always\nthought about national progress. His sincerity, courage, and commitment\nin serving the nation represent an invaluable legacy.<\/p>\n
\u201cIndonesia has lost one of its finest sons, but his fighting spirit\nwill continue to live in every step of the nation\u2019s development going\nforward,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
Ibas also attended the state funeral ceremony held solemnly at\nKalibata Heroes Cemetery (TMP) in Jakarta on Monday. Try Sutrisno\u2019s\npassing, he said, leaves behind a legacy of exemplary leadership,\ndedication, and long service to the Indonesian nation.<\/p>\n
Ibas emphasised that the fighting spirit and national values\ninherited by the deceased will continue to serve as inspiration for\nfuture generations in building a more just, advanced, and prosperous\nIndonesia.<\/p>\n
Try Sutrisno was a 1959 graduate of the Military Academy and had an\nextensive track record of service to the state. He served as Chief of\nStaff of the Army from 1986 to 1988 and as Commander of the Armed Forces\nfrom 1988 to 1993, before later serving as Vice President.<\/p>\n
A military honour ceremony accompanied his passing, reflecting the\nhighest recognition of his services to the nation and state. His coffin,\ndraped with the Red and White flag, was escorted to the burial site by\nthe Presidential Security Forces before being laid to rest with full\nmilitary honours.<\/p>\n
The funeral ceremony was also attended by President Prabowo Subianto,\nIndonesia\u2019s sixth President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, Vice President\nGibran Rakabuming Raka, tenth and twelfth Vice Presidents Jusuf Kalla,\nand eleventh Vice President Boediono.
