Former MPR Deputy Speaker Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono (Ibas) recalled the\nlate Defence Minister General (Retired) Ryamizard Ryacudu\u2019s message\nabout the \u2018grassroots general\u2019, meaning one who continuously\nprogresses.<\/p>\n
Meeting after Ryamizard\u2019s funeral at the National Hero Cemetery in\nKalibata, Jakarta, on Monday, Ibas said the late general frequently\nshared this message on various occasions.<\/p>\n
\u201cI recall General Ryamizard mentioning on multiple occasions that a\n\u2018grassroots general\u2019 is one who continuously progresses, stressing that\nevery member of the TNI has equal opportunities to secure good\npositions, not only within the military but also in other fields,\u201d he\nsaid.<\/p>\n
Ibas also conveyed condolences on behalf of former President Susilo\nBambang Yudhoyono (SBY). He noted that SBY knew Ryamizard closely as\nthey served in the same unit during their military service.<\/p>\n
\u201cPresident SBY knew General Ryamizard better, but I believe his\ncontributions have shown the same commitment as our TNI: upholding\nesprit de corps, continuously modernising the military, improving\nwelfare, maintaining professionalism, and serving the people,\u201d he\nadded.<\/p>\n
He expressed hope that the late general\u2019s ideas, commitment,\npatriotism, and dedication would be carried forward by the next\ngeneration.<\/p>\n
Retired General Ryamizard Ryacudu passed away at Gatot Soebroto Army\nCentral Hospital (RSPAD) in Jakarta on Sunday, May 31, at 2:03 pm WIB,\nfollowing treatment in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU).<\/p>\n
Ryamizard was a retired senior army officer who served as Army Chief\nof Staff from 2002 to 2005. During President Joko Widodo\u2019s\nadministration, he was appointed Defence Minister from 2014 to 2019.<\/p>\n
Before burial, the late general\u2019s body was laid to rest in front of\nthe Bhinneka Tunggal Ika Hall at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in\nJakarta on Monday morning. The funeral ceremony was led by Deputy\nDefence Minister Donny Ermawan.<\/p>\n
