        "content": "<p>\u201cIndonesia is accelerating plans for nuclear power, including SMRs,\nwith IAEA support, while expanding nuclear science applications in\nhealth through #RaysOfHope,\u201d Grossi wrote on X, as monitored in Jakarta\non Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Grossi said he met National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN)\nHead Arif Satria on the sidelines of the IAEA\u2019s 70th General Conference\nin Vienna on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>They reviewed cooperation and IAEA support following last month\u2019s\nearthquake, including the use of nondestructive testing and isotope\nhydrology.<\/p>\n<p>Satria said Indonesia is strengthening implementation of its national\nnuclear energy program, including preparations to build the country\u2019s\nfirst nuclear power plant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Indonesian government is currently strengthening implementation\nof the nuclear energy program to build Indonesia\u2019s first nuclear power\nplant as part of its clean energy transition and net-zero emissions\ncommitment,\u201d Satria said.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia has formally requested a follow-up Integrated Nuclear\nInfrastructure Review mission from the IAEA in 2027 to strengthen\nnational nuclear infrastructure readiness.<\/p>\n<p>Related news: Indonesia pursues nuclear power for energy needs, not\nweapons<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndonesia looks forward to IAEA support in strengthening national\nhuman-resource capacity, particularly in advanced nuclear reactor\ntechnologies, including Small Modular Reactors and large-scale\nreactors,\u201d Satria said.<\/p>\n<p>Grossi reaffirmed the IAEA\u2019s commitment to prioritizing missions and\ntechnical assistance for Indonesia, including technology-neutral\nassessments of commercial reactors and their suitability for national\nconditions and development targets.<\/p>\n<p>The IAEA also stands ready to support Indonesia throughout its\nnuclear development, while strengthening cooperation with the Health\nMinistry through its Rays of Hope program to expand radiation oncology\ncapacity.<\/p>\n<p>On August 20, National Energy Council member Sripeni Inten Cahyani\nsaid Indonesia\u2019s nuclear plans had gained concrete direction through\nsite identification and plans to include nuclear power in PLN\u2019s\n2025-2034 Electricity Supply Business Plan.<\/p>\n<p>Under the plan, nuclear power development targets 500 megawatts of\ncapacity, with 250 megawatts scheduled for 2032 and another 250\nmegawatts for 2034.<\/p>\n<p>BRIN has identified 28 potential nuclear power plant sites, with\ncurrent development efforts focused on West Kalimantan and Bangka\nBelitung.<\/p>\n<p>Related news: Significant progress in RI\u2019s nuclear research in past\ndecade: IAEA<\/p>",
