The United States and Iran are scheduled to hold talks in Islamabad,\nPakistan, this weekend. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi revealed\nthat the meeting will address a broader scope of issues than just the\nnuclear programme.<\/p>\n
In an interview with the Italian daily Corriere della Sera on\nWednesday (25\/3), Grossi detailed that the topics will touch on aspects\nof regional security that have long been flashpoints of conflict.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis time, the talks will also cover missiles, militias linked to\nthe Islamic Republic, and security guarantees for Iran,\u201d Grossi stated.\nHe also added the possibility of a temporary non-military solution\nagreement.<\/p>\n
Grossi outlined an alternative diplomatic plan using a dual approach\nas a middle path. First, a temporary halt to uranium enrichment by Iran\ngiven the current political, military, and inter-state trust conditions\nthat \u201care not yet feasible.\u201d Second, a review of the nuclear issue over\nthe next five to ten years.<\/p>\n
The escalation in the Middle East reached a boiling point following\nthe joint US and Israel attack on Iran starting from 28 February. The\nmassive attack reportedly killed more than 1,340 people, including\nIran\u2019s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.<\/p>\n
Tehran retaliated against the aggression by launching waves of drone\nand missile attacks on Israeli territory, as well as points in Jordan,\nIraq, and several Gulf countries hosting US military assets.<\/p>\n
