        "content": "<p>&apos;I La Galigo&apos; finally back home<\/p>\n<p>Bambang Nurbianto, The Jakarta Post\/Jakarta<\/p>\n<p>I La Galigo, a theater work based on the 14th century epic poem<br>\nSureq Galigo (Galigo Manuscripts), will be staged at home for the<br>\nfirst time.<br>\n  The production has already toured major cities including<br>\nSingapore, Amsterdam, Barcelona, Paris and New York.<\/p>\n<p>Head of the City Culture and Museum Agency Aurora Tambunan<br>\nsaid on Thursday that I La Galigo, the story of which originated<br>\nwith the Bugis, an indigenous people from South Sulawesi, would<br>\nbe performed from Dec. 10 to Dec. 12 at Taman Mini Indonesia<br>\nIndah&apos;s (TMII) Teater Tanah Airku.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I La Galigo directed by theater visionary Robert Wilson has<br>\nbeen successfully performed all over the world. Jakartans will<br>\nsoon have an opportunity to see the great work,&quot; Aurora told The<br>\nJakarta Post on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>Aurora said the work featured a cast of some 50 Indonesian<br>\nperformers, including actors, dancers and musicians.<\/p>\n<p>Besides Wilson, the creative team comprises a group of<br>\ninternational artists including American filmmaker Rhoda Grauer,<br>\nIndonesian musician Rahayu Supanggah and Indonesian dancer Restu<br>\nKusumaningrum.<\/p>\n<p>Longer than the Hindu Mahabharata manuscripts, Sureq Galigo<br>\ndetails the creation of Earth, its inhabitants and six<br>\ngenerations of gods. Its story focuses on a twin brother and<br>\nsister who fall in love in their mother&apos;s womb.<\/p>\n<p>The New York Times  called I La Galigo a &quot;stunning work&quot; when<br>\nit was performed in June as part of New York&apos;s Lincoln Center<br>\nFestival.<\/p>\n<p>Spokesman for the organizing committee Yusi Avianto Pareanom<br>\nsaid that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Vice President<br>\nJusuf Kalla would attend the opening night of the performance<br>\nhere.<\/p>\n<p>According to Yusi, lights for the show were being hired from<br>\nGermany.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We are now very busy as opening night approaches. We must<br>\nensure the performance is a success,&quot; he told the Post on<br>\nThursday.<\/p>\n<p>He said tickets for the three-hour performance were priced<br>\nfrom Rp 250,000 (US$25) to Rp 750,000.<\/p>\n<p>According to one of the organizers, who requested anonymity,<br>\nthe organizing committee is still seeking sponsorship for the Rp<br>\n6 billion production.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;We will invite more sponsors to fund the event because we<br>\ncannot rely on ticket sales alone,&quot; said the organizer, adding<br>\nthat renting theater lights from Germany would cost Rp 2 billion.<\/p>",
