PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia has assured that no incidents related to the automatic folding seat issue have been reported for Palisade vehicles in the country, despite a global recall prompted by a fatal accident in the US. The company is implementing precautionary software updates via over-the-air systems to maintain safety standards, ensuring that Indonesian customers' vehicles remain covered under official warranties. This response highlights the automotive industry's commitment to global safety protocols, with the recall affecting specific variants produced up to March 2026 in markets like North America and South Korea.

PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) has confirmed that, to date, no
incidents related to the automatic folding seat problem have been found
in Palisade units circulating in Indonesia, even as a recall policy is
underway in several countries. Chief Operating Officer of HMID,
Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, explained that the case triggering the massive
recall occurred in the United States (US). He emphasised that, based on
technical monitoring and field reports, no similar issues have been
identified in units sold in Indonesia. “So, for the Palisade recall,
this incident happened in the United States, not in Indonesia. So,
Indonesia has zero accidents,” said Fransiscus when met by the media
after the Hyundai Premium Courtesy Car Programme event in Jakarta on
Thursday (16/4/2026). Although there have been no incident reports in
the country, Hyundai Indonesia stated that it remains compliant with the
global safety standards set by the principal, Hyundai Motor Company. As
a preventive measure, the company is carrying out vehicle software
updates through an over-the-air (OTA) system, a digital mechanism that
allows updates without requiring customers to visit an official
workshop. This recall is a global response to the tragic incident in
Ohio, United States, on 7 March 2026, where a child died after being
trapped by the automatic folding seat mechanism. The issue concerns the
failure of the anti-pinch system, a safety feature that should prevent
the seat from continuing to move if obstructed by an object or
passenger. Further investigation revealed that Hyundai had actually
received initial reports regarding the potential failure of this system
as early as August 2025 in California. A consumer reported that their
child was nearly trapped by the second-row seat that moved electrically.
However, at that time, the manufacturer’s internal examination deemed
the seat mechanism to be functioning normally, so the case was closed in
October 2025. Now, the global recall policy covers around 74,965 units
in North America and 57,474 units in South Korea for vehicles produced
up to 11 March 2026. The recall focuses on variants with automatic
folding seats, such as the Limited and Calligraphy types, while variants
with manual seats are stated to be unaffected. In response to the
situation, Frans emphasised that recalls are a standard procedure in the
automotive industry to maintain quality and user safety. He also assured
that all Hyundai units marketed in Indonesia remain protected by
official warranties, so consumers do not need to worry about their
vehicle’s after-sales guarantees.
",
