        "content": "<p>Hyatt gives gamelan to 'jatilan' group<\/p>\n<p>YOGYAKARTA: In an effort to help preserve traditional art forms,<br>\nthe five-star Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta hotel presented a set of<br>\ntraditional gamelan instruments on Jan. 24 to a Jatilan dance<br>\ntroupe from the hamlet of Tegalwaras.<\/p>\n<p>Jatilan, or kuda lumping, is a traditional dance<br>\nperformance in which the troupe members dance themselves into a<br>\ntrance by using a horse made of plaited bamboo.<\/p>\n<p>The performance is usually accompanied by gamelan music.<\/p>\n<p>Hyatt Regency Yogyakarta general manager Guntur Tampubolon<br>\nexpressed concern that such traditional performances were being<br>\nset aside for more modern forms of entertainment.<\/p>\n<p>\"Traditional performances like the jatilan can be a<br>\ndistinctive feature for Yogyakarta,\" he said.<\/p>\n<p>Also to help preserve traditional art forms, the hotel hosts<br>\njatilan performances every Saturday night as part of its \"Night<br>\nMarket\" program at its Kemangi Bistro. --JP<\/p>",
