        "content": "<p>Hunger strike ends after a day<\/p>\n<p>MEDAN, North Sumatra: Lasmaria Simatupang stopped her hunger<br>\nstrike on Friday after suffering stomach problems, Antara<br>\nreported.<\/p>\n<p>Simatupang began the strike on Thursday, together with a<br>\nfellow worker protesting at the Medan Legal Aid office over poor<br>\nwages and the arrest of fellow protesters.<\/p>\n<p>\"I will not stop protesting, however, until police release 12<br>\nfellow workers in their detention.\"<\/p>\n<p>Lasmaria and Nursani, both workers of PT Latexindo Toba<br>\nPerkasa textile company, went on a hunger strike in protest of<br>\nthe arrest of 12 workers who had staged a demonstration at their<br>\nworkplace demanding the management raise their daily wage from Rp<br>\n6,500 to Rp 8,000 following the skyrocketing prices of basic<br>\ncommodities.<\/p>\n<p>\"The police should not have detained the workers because they<br>\nhad not committed any crimes,\" she said.<\/p>\n<p>Nursani is continuing her hunger strike.
