A United Nations simulation continues to be utilised as a means of\ncapacity building for the younger generation in the fields of diplomacy\nand international relations. Through this forum, participants practise\nconstructing arguments, negotiating, and seeking solutions to various\nglobal issues.<\/p>\n
A total of 486 Indonesian delegates took part in the 21st Asia Youth\nInternational Model United Nations (AYIMUN) held in Bangkok, Thailand,\nfrom 26 to 29 June 2026. The event, organised by the International\nGlobal Network (IGN), was attended by around 700 delegates from 19\ncountries.<\/p>\n
IGN President Muhammad Fahrizal said the UN simulation is not only a\nstage for sharpening public speaking skills but also brings together\nparticipants from various countries with different cultural backgrounds\nand perspectives. \u201cSeven hundred people are in the same room, ready to\nspeak on behalf of the countries they represent and champion issues they\nmay have never studied before. For me, that is something extraordinary,\u201d\nFahrizal stated.<\/p>\n
The opening of the 21st AYIMUN was attended by the Malaysian\nAmbassador to Thailand, Datuk Wan Zaidi Wan Abdullah; the Timor-Leste\nAmbassador to Thailand, Francisco Tilman Cepeda; and Associate Economic\nAffairs Officer of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for\nAsia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), Jack Crawford.<\/p>\n
Datuk Wan Zaidi encouraged delegates to use the forum to broaden\ntheir horizons, enhance diplomatic skills, and build networks with\nparticipants from various countries. \u201cTake advantage of this opportunity\nto gain knowledge, sharpen skills, and build friendships while\ndiscussing various world issues,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Francisco Tilman Cepeda stated that the world faces increasingly\ncomplex challenges, making youth involvement necessary to bring forth\nnew ideas and solutions. \u201cThrough platforms like AYIMUN, you can build\ntrust, seek joint solutions, and foster mutual respect,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Jack Crawford assessed that this year\u2019s AYIMUN theme is\nrelevant to the global situation full of uncertainty. According to him,\nyouth involvement in studying diplomacy is an important asset for facing\nvarious international challenges. \u201cIn a world full of uncertainty,\nAYIMUN participants choose to study diplomacy, understand various global\nissues, and show concern for the issues facing the world,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The 21st AYIMUN carried the theme \u201cThe Uncertain World: Rethinking\nDiplomacy in the Face of Crisis\u201d. The simulation was divided into nine\ncouncils, including the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP),\nWorld Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Development Programme\n(UNDP), United Nations Trade and Development (UNCTAD), United Nations\nCommittee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNCOPUOS), Disarmament\nand International Security Committee (DISEC), and the United Nations\nHuman Rights Council (UNHRC).<\/p>\n
On this occasion, IGN also awarded full scholarships to four AYIMUN\nand Asia World Model United Nations (AWMUN) alumni who have participated\nin the programme more than four times. They are Lleyton Schuts\n(Australia), Mailika P. Boransing (Philippines), Bratasena Ratmowardojo\n(Indonesia), and Mirabelle Woo (Malaysia).
