Hundreds moved from flood<\/p>\n
KENDARI, Southeast Sulawesi: Hundreds of residents of Lepo-
\nLepo and Asera districts in Kendari regency have been evacuated
\nafter a flood hit the area, Antara reported yesterday.<\/p>\n
Head of the provincial office of Ministry of Social Service
\nRustam Pale said a team of rescue workers had been deployed to
\nhelp the residents move to higher grounds. Food supplies had also
\nbeen sent.<\/p>\n
\"We're preparing more supplies, as there have been reports
\nthat the flooding is expanding. The water levels of Wanggu and
\nLasolo rivers are rising,\" he said.<\/p>\n
There have been no reports of casualties from at least seven
\nvillages that were hit by the flood. La Ode Saiddin of the
\nKendari municipality administration said that the disaster is an
\nannual occurrence.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, from Banjarmasin, the capital of South Kalimantan,
\nAntara reported that the flood which hit Satui district, Kotabaru
\nregency three days ago has begun to subside. Most of the 1,400
\nfamilies who escaped to safer grounds, however, chose to remain
\nin their shelter for fear that the water level might rise again.<\/p>\n
Satui district chief Suwardi said the fear was reasonable, as
\nrains have yet to let up.<\/p>\n
\"If it rains again over the upper course of the Danau River,
\nthe flood will surely rise again,\" he said. The flooding is the
\nthird to hit the area this year.<\/p>\n
Other areas affected by the flooding were in the Kintap
\ndistrict, Tanah Laut regency. There have not been any reports of
