Hundreds ill during exodus<\/p>\n
BANDAR LAMPUNG, Lampung: A total of 444 passengers of ferries
\ncrossing through the Bakauheni port, South Lampung, from Java to
\nSumatra or vice versa, during the recent Idul Fitri exodus
\nsuffered from various ailments and sought medical help at the
\nport's clinic.<\/p>\n
The Antara news agency reported that during last year's
\nexodus, only 200 people sought medical attention at the clinic.<\/p>\n
The jostling and shoving of people upon embarking and
\ndisembarking caused a seven-month pregnant woman to go into labor
\nprematurely.<\/p>\n
The mother was a passenger of KMP Rajabasa on her way from
\nJakarta to Palembang. She gave birth at the clinic shortly after
\ndisembarking here; both she and the baby were doing well.<\/p>\n
According to Dr. Evi Meutia, most of the health complaints
\nwere not serious but did need immediate attention. Among the
\nailments were motion sickness, flu, headache, stress, fatigue,
\nfainting spells and cramps.<\/p>\n
Most of the passengers were able to continue their trips
\nafterward. Only 15 needed further care in the nearby hospital.
