        "content": "<p>Human rights and power<\/p>\n<p>Last week, the Supreme Court exonerated the defendants in the<br>\nMarsinah murder case, which was controversial from the beginning.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, too, the judges at the Jakarta State Administrative<br>\nCourt ruled in favor of Goenawan Mohamad and 43 other ex-<br>\nemployees of the defunct news magazine Tempo, who had filed a<br>\nsuit against Minister of Information Harmoko for his revocation<br>\nof Tempo's publishing license. The State Administrative Court's<br>\nruling and the Minister of Information's stated intention to<br>\nappeal the decision are proof that the legal process is respected<br>\nin this country.<\/p>\n<p>The existence of the State Administrative Court -- which makes<br>\nit possible for people to file charges against government<br>\nofficials -- and the improvement of the independent status of the<br>\njudiciary is a positive development which should be encouraged.<br>\nNeither should be viewed as a means to humiliate government<br>\nofficials. Rather, both should be seen as recourses to balance<br>\npower and facilitate the distribution of power.
