Human resources to be developed further: Try<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Vice President Try Sutrisno said yesterday that
\nIndonesia's service industry and human resources are in need of
\nimprovement and reformation.<\/p>\n
\"The government and people are determined to continue their
\nefforts to improve the quality of human resources through the
\nimprovement of professionalism, productivity, work discipline and
\nethics as well as the management of infrastructure,\" Try said at
\nthe opening of the third roundtable with the Indonesian
\ngovernment.<\/p>\n
The roundtable, which ends today, is being attended by about
\n110 executives from some 60 multinational companies. A number of
\nministers, high ranking officials and economists are giving their
\npresentations at the two-day meeting organized by the Economist
\nConferences.<\/p>\n
Try noted that improvement and reformation in those sectors
\nare necessary to prepare Indonesia for entry into a freer market
\nunder the World Trade Organization, which was set up early this
\nyear.<\/p>\n
\"Indonesia sincerely hopes that an open, equitable and
\ntransparent trade system, which is mutually beneficial and imbued
\nwith mutual respect, will truly be materialized,\" Try said.<\/p>\n
He also noted that the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation
\n(APEC) forum is expected to contribute to a better system of free
\ntrade in the region.<\/p>\n
\"APEC is not a closed trade bloc. Thus, non-APEC states can
\nenjoy free trade and investment in APEC because its aim is not
\nmerely to improve the well-being of the region but the prosperity
\nof the world in general,\" Try said.<\/p>\n
In anticipation of APEC free trade, Try said, Indonesia is
\ncommitted to further deregulation and the simplification of
\nbureaucratic procedures to produce a conducive business and
