In March 1994 I went to the Agency of Human Resources (WSDM)
\nat the Wijaya Grand Center, Blok-C, No. 15-16, Jl. Wijaya II,
\nKebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, to confirm about a training
\nprogram, which guarantees a working contract. The program
\nincludes three months of basic training, which is followed by
\nanother three-month adjustment period with a salary of Rp 150,000
\nper month. After the adjustment time, during the following three
\nmonths the participants will be employed in a company with a
\nminimum salary of Rp 300,000 per month.<\/p>\n
Interested in their program, I decided to follow the training
\nand in March I paid Rp 250,000 for the enrollment and a
\nmembership fee for one year. In May 1994, I paid Rp 1,250,000 as
\nthe first installment for the training. In July 1994, prior to
\nemployment, I paid another Rp 1,250,000 as the second
\ninstallment. The basic training started on April 13, 1994, and
\nwas participated in by 14 candidates. I worked hard until the
\nadjustment period came.<\/p>\n
However, in practice, during the adjustment period we were not
\npaid as promised. They said the promise of payment was made by
\nincompetent staff, and not by the manager.<\/p>\n
As a member of the WSDM I met all the requirements and obeyed
\nthe rules set by the agency. To my astonishment, not a single
\npromise has been fulfilled by the agency.<\/p>\n
Even more surprising is the fact that the manager left for
\nBali on Aug. 26, 1994, reportedly for important business related
\nto WSDM. But none of the WSDM members have heard of him since.
\nNot even his colleagues in Bali know of his whereabouts. We all
\nfeel confused over this uncertainty. The problem has worsened as
\nmany people have come and wished to see the manager and wanted
\nhim to pay his bills. The big question now is concerning the fate
\nof this organization. We have sacrificed too much for its cause,
\nanyway.<\/p>\n
