Despite being one of the largest cities in Indonesia, Palangka Raya\nis undergoing optimal urban development. Through the \u2018KEREN\u2019 vision\nchampioned by Mayor Fairid Naparin\u2014an acronym for Collaborative,\nAdvanced Economy, Religious, Energetic, and Comfortable\u2014various\nintegrated development programmes continue to be implemented.<\/p>\n
This vision has led Palangka Raya to become the \u2018overall champion\u2019 in\nthe 2026 Regional Kalimantan Outstanding Local Government Appreciation,\norganised by the Ministry of Home Affairs. In this awards ceremony,\nPalangka Raya successfully secured awards in three out of the four\ncompeting categories: Poverty and Stunting Reduction, Unemployment\nReduction, and Creative Financing\/Entrepreneur Government.<\/p>\n
Mayor Fairid Naparin expressed his gratitude for the achievements.\n\u201cWhat we have achieved is the result of comprehensive pentahelix\ncooperation, from upstream to downstream,\u201d he stated, noting that this\nspans from planning and asset utilisation to human resource\ndevelopment.<\/p>\n
He believes that a holistic approach is essential, particularly in\naddressing stunting, which cannot be tackled in isolation. Fairid\nexplained that stunting issues involve not only child nutrition but also\nenvironmental conditions, hygiene, access to clean water, housing, and\nfamily income and welfare.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur KEREN vision is circular. In handling stunting, we do not only\nfocus on the child but also their environment, cleanliness, clean water,\nhousing, and the economic condition and income of their families. We\ntake this very seriously,\u201d said Fairting.<\/p>\n
Consequently, as stunting prevention became a priority programme\nunder President Prabowo\u2019s administration, Palangka Raya had already\nimplemented a foster parent programme. Echelon III officials are\ninvolved in monitoring stunting monthly, collaborating with Posyandu\n(integrated healthcare centre) officers and the PKK (Family Welfare\nMovement) through a door-to-door approach to directly understand the\nconditions of children, families, and their environments.<\/p>\n
To reduce poverty and unemployment rates, the Palangka Raya City\nGovernment is running various collaborative programmes, such as the\nempowerment of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), labour\ntraining, and cheap food movements. Mayor Fairid emphasised that the\nlocal government\u2019s primary focus is to increase income and reduce the\npublic\u2019s expenditure burden.<\/p>\n
In an effort to increase regional revenue, Fairid is evaluating the\nRegional Budget (APBD) to identify sectors with potential for\nthird-party partnerships. \u201cFor example, we are currently implementing\nPublic-Private Partnerships (PPP) for Public Street Lighting (PJU),\nwhich carries a significant annual cost,\u201d he said. This allows budgets\npreviously allocated for routine needs to be redirected to other\nactivities.<\/p>\n
