The Houthi rebel group in Yemen has claimed it launched drone attacks\nagainst an airport and facilities belonging to Saudi Arabia\u2019s state oil\ngiant Aramco in the Najran region of southern Saudi Arabia, near the\nYemeni border. The group \u2018successfully carried out two military\noperations using drones: the first targeted sensitive Saudi enemy sites\nat Najran Airport, while the second targeted Aramco facilities in\nNajran,\u2019 Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree said in a statement on\nTelegram, as reported by AFP on Friday (21\/8\/2026).<\/p>\n
A day earlier, on Thursday (20\/8), Iran\u2019s Revolutionary Guard had\nwarned that Saudi Arabia \u2018would not be able to withstand\u2019 the Houthis as\nthe Iran-backed group escalated its attacks against the kingdom. Yemen,\nwhich has been embroiled in civil conflict for more than a decade,\nbecame the latest country drawn into the Middle East war in July when\nthe Houthis abandoned the 2022 ceasefire with the Saudi-backed Yemeni\ngovernment.<\/p>\n
This week, a Yemeni minister told AFP that the Houthis were planning\nto seize territory along the Bab al-Mandab Strait, which would enable\nthem to further threaten the vital shipping lane. Three Houthi military\nsources, as well as a spokesman for Yemeni government forces, also told\nAFP that the rebels planned to advance southwards from their current\npositions.<\/p>\n
The conflict reignited last month when the Houthis received Iranian\naircraft in the Yemeni capital Sanaa, triggering a series of retaliatory\nstrikes from Saudi Arabia.
