House to quiz BI governor nominees<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: House leaders and faction chairpersons urged the
\nHouse finance and banking commission to finish its selection
\nhearings on candidates for the position of Bank Indonesia (BI)
\ngovernor by May 10.<\/p>\n
The recommendation would mean that commission members will
\nhave to work through the House recess from March 8 through April
\n25, 2003.<\/p>\n
\"We urge the commission to take the tight schedule into
\nconsideration,\" House Speaker Akbar Tandjung told the press after
\na consultation meeting between House leaders and faction
\nchairpersons here on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
President Megawati Soekarnoputri has nominated current BI
\ndeputy governor Miranda Goeltom, Indonesia's representative to
\nthe International Monetary Fund (IMF) Cyrillus Harinowo, and
\nformer coordinating minister for the economy Burhanuddin
\nAbdullah, to replace current BI governor Syahril Sabirin, who
\nwill end his term on May 17, 2003.<\/p>\n
Legislator Endin A.J. Soefihara called on his fellow
\nlegislators on the commission to continue their work during the
\nrecess to enable the House of Representatives (DPR) meet its
