House to miss terrorism bill target<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The deliberation of the newly-submitted terrorism
\nbills is likely to miss the targets set by the House of
\nRepresentatives (DPR).<\/p>\n
The House's Steering Committee decided on Wednesday to delay a
\nmeeting to schedule the deliberation of the bills until Nov. 21
\nfrom the originally scheduled date of Nov. 14.<\/p>\n
Legislators vowed on Tuesday to complete deliberating the
\nterrorism bills before they went into recess on Nov. 29, but
\ngiven the limited time, they are likely to miss the target they
\nset themselves.<\/p>\n
The government submitted two bills on Thursday -- one on
\nterrorism and the other on the retrospective application of the
\nterrorism law to the Bali bombings -- for deliberation by the
\nHouse.<\/p>\n
House Secretary-General Siti Nurhajati Daud confirmed on
\nWednesday that the Steering Committee would convene on Nov. 21 to
\narrange the scheduling of the bills' deliberation.<\/p>\n
