House to hold hearing on E. Timor<\/p>\n
JAKARTA: The House of Representatives' Commission I on defense
\nand foreign affairs will invite State Secretary Bambang Kesowo
\nand Foreign Affairs Minister Hassan Wirayuda next week to seek
\nclarification of President Megawati Soekarnoputri's visit to East
\nTimor.<\/p>\n
The commission chairman Ibrahim Ambong told journalists on
\nMonday that the topics to be raised would include matters which
\nhave been prominently covered by the foreign press, such as the
\nbig number of Indonesian security troops deployed to safeguard
\nthe President during her four-hour stay in East Timor.<\/p>\n
According to him, the huge troops deployment was prone to
\ncriticism from both the press, particularly foreign one, and
\npeople in the country.<\/p>\n
