House to choose BI deputy governors next month<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): The House of Representatives will choose new
\ndeputy governors for Bank Indonesia in the second week of
\nOctober, ending the vacuum which has left the three positions
\nempty since early this year.<\/p>\n
Vice chairman of House Commission IX for financial and
\ndevelopment planning affairs Paskah Suzetta said on Thursday that
\nthe House would choose three names from the nine names proposed
\nby the central bank.<\/p>\n
\"We need to take swift action, if the positions are kept
\nvacant then the board of governors' decision would be invalid
\nbecause a quorum would not be possible,\" he explained to
\nreporters after an internal meeting of the commission.<\/p>\n
The names proposed to replace former deputy governor Achwan
\nare Bachri Ansjori currently the director for BI's internal
\nsupervision, Djakaria currently BI's representative in Tokyo and
\nMaulana Ibrahim currently second director for BI's bank
\nsupervision unit.<\/p>\n
Recommended to replace Dono Iskandar as deputy governor are
\nAslim Tadjudin presently the director of BI's monetary
\nprocessing, Hartadi A. Sarwono currently director of the bank's
\neconomic research and monetary policy division and Maman Somantri
\nthe director for research and banking regulations division.<\/p>\n
Bun Bunan Hutapea director for internal finances, Made Sukada
\ndirector for foreign exchange processing and Siti Ch. Fadjriah
\nfirst director for BI's bank overseer division, are recommended
\nto replace Burhanuddin Abdullah.<\/p>\n
\"We will ask all candidates to present their proposed work
\nprogram to the commission and hopefully we will be able to
\nappraise their competency and choose from among them,\" Paskah
\nsaid, explaining that the commission's choices would be forwarded
\nto the House's plenary meeting where a formal decision would be
\nmade.<\/p>\n
The positions have been left vacant since late last year.<\/p>\n
Paskah also said that the House would also ask BI to explain
\nthe status of senior deputy governor Anwar Nasution and deputy
\ngovernor Miranda Goeltom who had tendered their resignations last
\nyear.<\/p>\n
\"Since they already submitted their resignation letters, there
\nshould be a reelection for the positions,\" he said, explaining
\nthat the candidates for senior deputy governor could only be
