Jakarta, VIVA \u2013 Member of the House of Representatives\u2019 Commission\nIII, Hinca Panjaitan, has urged National Police Chief General Listyo\nSigit Prabowo to be transparent and refrain from covering up drug cases\ninvolving members of the Indonesian National Police (Polri).<\/p>\n
The warning follows a string of shocking revelations regarding the\ninvolvement of law enforcement officers in the distribution of illegal\nnarcotics across several regions.<\/p>\n
Hinca highlighted a number of cases that have recently come to light,\nranging from West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) to Toraja, which demonstrate that\ncertain police officers have failed to carry out their duties\nproperly.<\/p>\n
\u201cI urge the Police Chief to take swift action by placing them under\nspecial assignment, investigating them, and bringing them to justice in\naccordance with the applicable mechanisms. I believe there should be no\nmore leniency,\u201d Hinca told reporters at the Parliamentary Complex in\nSenayan, Central Jakarta, as quoted on Tuesday, 24 February 2026.<\/p>\n
According to Hinca, the conduct of police officers who abuse their\nauthority for drug-related interests has caused great public anxiety. He\nassessed this as a cultural problem that must be urgently addressed\nwithin the police force.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe attitude and behaviour of police officers who abuse their\nauthority is deeply troubling. We from Commission III are asking the\nPolice Chief to explain to the public in full clarity what is actually\nhappening. There is no need to cover things up, because this is our\nshared commitment,\u201d the Democrat Party politician continued.<\/p>\n
Hinca stressed that anyone who abuses their position, particularly in\nconnection with cases they are handling, must not be shown any\nmercy.<\/p>\n
\u201cI urge the Police Chief to personally intervene and deal with all\nsubordinates who have violated the applicable regulations,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Furthermore, Hinca called for behavioural reform within the police\nforce to prevent public trust from eroding further. He expressed hope\nthat the Police Chief would genuinely demonstrate his commitment to\neradicating drugs without discrimination, even if the perpetrators are\nhis own subordinates.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnyone who abuses their authority and position, especially regarding\ncases they are handling, particularly drugs \u2014 there shall be no mercy,\u201d\nHinca asserted.<\/p>\n
