A member of Commission VI of the Indonesian House of Representatives\n(DPR RI), Christiany Eugenia Paruntu, believes that the government\u2019s\nsteps, alongside Danantara, to streamline and consolidate SOE\nsubsidiaries are strategic policies that deserve support. Such measures\nare intended to strengthen the competitiveness of state companies,\nincrease operational efficiency, and optimise the contribution of SOEs\nto the national economy.<\/p>\n
She noted that simplifying corporate structures is a vital part of\nthe SOE transformation process, allowing them to become more adaptive to\nbusiness challenges and capable of creating greater added value for the\nstate. She explained that many SOEs currently possess highly complex\ngroup structures with a vast number of subsidiaries.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis condition has the potential to cause overlapping functions,\nincrease operational costs, and reduce the effectiveness of business\ndecision-making,\u201d she stated in a briefing on Saturday, 6 June 2026.<\/p>\n
Consequently, the consolidation efforts already undertaken in several\nlarge SOEs\u2014including the plantation, cement, and port sectors\u2014should be\nappreciated as efforts to build leaner, healthier, and more productive\norganisations. She agreed with observers that reducing the number of\nbusiness entities can yield positive impacts on cost efficiency and the\noptimisation of corporate performance.<\/p>\n
However, Christiany emphasised that the true challenge does not end\nwith the merger process itself. \u201cThe far more important stage is\nensuring that post-merger integration runs effectively, ranging from the\nharmonisation of work cultures and the alignment of business processes\nto the strengthening of corporate governance and the improvement of\nhuman resource quality,\u201d she continued.<\/p>\n
She added that the success of restructuring should not only be\nmeasured by the reduction in the number of subsidiaries but also by\nincreased productivity, profitability, and the companies\u2019 ability to\ncreate sustainable economic value. As a member of the Golkar Party\nFaction, Christiany stated that she is open to all\nstakeholders\u2014including SOE entities, trade unions, business actors,\nacademics, and the public\u2014to provide input, aspirations, and evaluations\nregarding the ongoing restructuring process.
