Indonesia's House of Representatives is mobilising community participation to monitor implementation of the government's Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme across Serang City, with 74 service units currently active. The initiative underscores the importance of public engagement in ensuring equitable distribution and effective impact of the national nutritional assistance scheme.

The success of the programme does not only depend on the central
government or the technical implementers, but also on the active
involvement of the community.

Tangerang (ANTARA) – Member of the Indonesian House of
Representatives (DPR RI) Commission IX, Tubagus Haerul Jaman, is
involving the community to help monitor the implementation of the Free
Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme in Serang City, Banten.

He said that this programme is not just about providing food, but a
major effort by the state to ensure that every beneficiary receives
adequate, balanced, and sustainable nutrition.

“I am optimistic that, with proper implementation and support from
all parties through monitoring, this programme can have a real impact,
especially for the community in Serang City,” said Haerul Jaman in a
statement received in Tangerang.

He also explained that the implementation of MBG in various regions
shows positive developments and continues to be improved.

“We invite all elements of society to work together to oversee,
support, and actively participate in this programme. With strong
synergy, we can ensure that the benefits are truly felt widely and
equitably,” he said.

The Serang City Health Office recorded that as many as 74 Nutritional
Preparation Service Units (SPPG) have been operating actively throughout
Serang City. With the support of an integrated data system, SPPG is
optimistic that the distribution of this national nutritional assistance
can run effectively while still prioritizing local wisdom and the needs
of the community during the holy month.

Head of the SD Dindikbud Coaching Division of Serang City, Reni
Rafiani, said that school participation in the MBG programme during
Ramadan is voluntary and without any coercion, in order to respect the
internal policies of each educational institution.

Meanwhile, the Regional Coordinator of the Nutritional Preparation
Service Unit (SPPG) of Serang City, Nuni Pratiwi, added that schools
that continue to participate are also given flexibility in arranging the
schedule for distributing food packages.

“We provide flexibility for schools to determine the distribution
schedule based on mutual agreement. This adjustment is made so that the
MBG programme does not disrupt the solemnity of fasting worship or the
changing learning schedules,” said Nuni.
",
